Who Do Men Say You Are?

Who are you? It's a funny question that has plagued many of us for a number of years, especially since we don't answer based on what we know about ourselves, but instead we answer by regurgitating the garbage others have fed us. The people around us have labeled us as nothing, useless, or have chosen to let one solitary aspect of our life define us and have denied us the right to excel, the right to advise them, counsel them or even pray for them. Like all things there is nothing new under the sun and Jesus had to face this very issue.

When Jesus went to Nazareth, his hometown, to minister he was not greeted with, rolls of Hallelujahs, but with mumbling and questions. Where did, he get such knowledge, wisdom, and power from?

"And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath, this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? and his bretheren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?" Matthew 13:54-56

Did Jesus let all of their words put him down and stop him from doing the work that he was sent to do. No. Their disbelief and lack of faith became a hinderance to them. They missed out on their healing, their deliverance, and their salvation but Jesus kept on being Jesus. He did not admonish them for their unbelief or go to extreme lengths to prove that he was more than the carpenter's son. So, why are you letting what people have to say about who you are, or what you used be determine the work you do for the King? Every time you let their words impede you it hinders your spiritual growth. Every time you cower or lash out against them to prove who you are you deny Christ.

Humble yourself and let men say what they will knowing that your faith in Christ has now made you a child of God; not all men can say that. You are longer, the nurse or the nurse's daughter, you are longer merely, cashier, but heir to the throne. "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:26

Instead of sulking, run on, doing the work of the Lord, and let men say what they will. Instead of shouting at them, shout praises to God for He has exalted. He has made you the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 8:13), so why are you letting them lead you. Know on this day that your heavenly Father, loves you and wants to use you to do great works in this land.
